making art on the river
sketches from the salmon & rogue
This July, I had the chance to float both the main stem of the Salmon River in Idaho, and the wild & scenic stretch of the Rogue River in Oregon. It’s hard to put into words how special these places are, and what a magical thing it is to move through the wilderness on a raft - splashing in rapids and camping on sandy beaches at night. So instead of words, here are the pictures I drew.
I hope summer is treating you well, and you’re finding time to be outside and make art. I highly recommend it.
Sending you joy! - Kika

I don’t know why, but seeing the digitally colored piece popped up a memory of the old school computers at McDonalds when we were kids. They had a coloring thing where you could press the color and fill in the Hamburgler or Ronald. Do you remember those?! Anyway, I was curious if digital coloring was as fun as that. Thanks for the memory and your delightful work!
I love how you capture the mood of each scene! Beautiful work I really enjoy seeing what others do on their personal journeys as I peruse my own. I would love to hear your thoughts.
