what's it all for?
a video from my artist residency in spain
I’m leaving my artist residency at Joya AiR with a lot of paintings in my suitcase, scratches on my legs from wandering off trail, and more questions than answers - but maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be. What a beautiful place to get to follow my whims for a few weeks.
I made this short film at the end of my time here, reflecting on what it was like to create art these past two weeks. The music is me noodling on the communal piano in their living room. It felt really good to make.
Thats all for now.
Lots of love and gratitude, Kika

Beautiful and heartfelt, also I really love the piano in the background too, it fits the mood of the film so well. And I love the questions you ask. Makes me realize that I waited until midlife to make art because I didn't think it had meaning. But that's the way we're made to feel today about anything that doesn't have a concrete effect on the world. After a few years and many struggles, I've come to the conclusion that making art matters just by itself. I think it matters because it gives a voice, an expression, to the invisible. To things beyond this life that cannot be expressed otherwise. I think it's a service, though it cannot be measured.
Love this, Kika! "Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow." - Kurt Vonnegut
